I've been experiencing the same problem with my Iconia since I bought it in May 2011. Even after all the updates, audio/video chatting remains a challenge with this tab regardless of what program I use. I wonder if it's a software issue. if it's hardware related, we're screwed for the duration.
This has been a problem from day one, we are all still waiting for a solution from Acer , but there again there might not be one !!!
I have seen this problem using several recording apps from the market to try to record band practice which is very loud! The resultant recording is always poor crappy quality...
Have you guys tried using a hands free device I use one on the a100 mine are earbuds with a built in mic the same kind you'd use with a cell phone works great for chatting.

I sent Acer a tech support question regarding this very topic. This is my "response" from them:

NOW, WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO THAT?

Same problem here ! I went a step further-
I spoke with Acer customer service and explained him the entire issue. He initially asked me to do the factory reset which was of no help. I asked him to repair my tab(under warranty) or replace. He then asked me to send my tab to their service location. I spent 22 bucks (shipping+ i took insurance). They won;t cover the shipping cost. I got my tab back in 20 days. The note from them
said "No defect found" !
I am furious.
Oh No.
got my a200 tablet last week and skype is no good because of the muffled mic. None of us should have to download apps or use headsets etc to get around the problem. Acer need to come clean and either fix the drama or tell us it cant be fixed. I have had a gut full of big companies not standing behind a product that they make. Hopefully it can be fixed cause for me its half the reason to have one.
This tablet is the last Acer product I will buy.
