    SD card format

Just purchased a 16GB Kingston micro SDHC class 4 card to use in my A500 and I would appreciate
any information you might have to offer re: micro SD cards.

For instance it is necessary to format the card before installing itin the tablet?

If formatting is required is it possible to do this after installation? I seen posts saying that it needs to
be formatted to the FAT32 system(?) so I'm now wondering if the A500 will allow me to format the card
and put it in the required FAT32 (?)

Also, there was mention of needing a "file manager" in order to read the files/folders stored on the card.
I believe several people have mentioned the "Astro" file manager and that it's a free download from the Apps store?

I thank you in advance for any information you may wish to offer.

    Clay

Thanks for the reply Frank , I did just that and it's working just great.
Still not sure if I need a "file manager" or not. Don't know exactly what it
    is supposed to do (?)

A file manager Allows you to browse files on your internal and SD card memory. Give Astro file manager a try, there's a free version.

Is it possible to install apps to the external SD card, as you do on phone versions of Android?

So...is there an onboard option to format a new SD card? The one that was given to me has info from another android device and I don't want to save anything to it until it is completely cleaned off. Thanks for any advice...

    Newfiebro -
I have used the Astro and also 'SD card' apps and the Astro app is way better. It is visually good looking, is multi touch responsive (pinch & zoom)...and gives you many options that you'd find I windows like copy-paste-cut-move etc. It also allows you to open files from witthin asking you which application you want to open with...'SD card' did not allow for this. Also...one quirky thing about it, when you 1st go into the app, you'll want to hit the little 'up' button (^) and then you'll see 'external sd' and just 'SD card' - the one that says JUST SD card is what is onboard memory...'external sd' is what's actually on the memory card you have inserted.

Just play with it a bit...you'll probably like it.

Hope this helped and sorry if it is a repeat of something that was already posted...not intentional.

Didn't one of the updates add NTFS file system compatibility? Thought that was in the 3.2 update..
