USB-related bricking - How to unBrick?

    Happy Holidays everyone!

I bought an A500 three months ago, and have never rooted it, but have allowed all updates to install.
Yesterday, I was transferring my eBook collection to the tablet from my external USB drive (320GB Seagate FreeAgent Go).
When I checked on it, the screen was blacked.
Push the power button, and it lit up, but the transfer had died at 56%.
After disconnecting the drive, the tablet was unresponsive.
I tried to restart, but it stuck at the ANDROID shiny animation.
Since then, I've tried multiple incarnations of external SDCard restore attempts, and restore-to-stock downgrades, but haven't disassembled the unit yet (to overwrite the internal SDCard firmware.) Nothing has worked at all yet.
The USB driver for my Win7 laptop fails to recognize the tablet at any point in the boot process, including during the attempts to have system.zips stick a foot in the door.

What's the next step in getting medieval on it's shiny green butt?
I have Eclipse installed with the ASDK, but haven't played with it yet, if that might help us at all?

    Thanks in advance,
