Can't connect to ad hoc network

I just tried to connect to a tethered device and honeycomb won't let me connect to it. I found a solution but it's for asus transformer.

[GUIDE] Enable ad-hoc tethering on your Transformer (needs root!) - xda-developers

So before I go and try this, I want to know if there's a specific solution for Iconia. Thanks.

Iconia does NOT support ad-hoc so the ony way to make it work is to root and replace a file from another manufacture tablet. Use at your own risk.

@justicw: correction on your reply, HONEYCOMB does not support ad-hoc, not Iconia. also, your answer is basically what I posted above (if you did not see the link that I posted). please read thoroughly before replying.
