I forgot to add my acer a500 is rooted and is running ics , not stock ics
Okay I'm coming in to this stuff one step at a time , I've heard "kernels" quite a few times . What is this ? I've also heard updating them , I have an ICS icylicious with an 2.6.39.4+ kernel . Do I need to update this or am I okay ?

any help would be greatly appreciated .
A kernel is basically the base that makes the OS work and the tool that lets all the hardware talk to each other and the OS. It also can change the set idle and maximum peed of the CPU which is why people look for a custom one. Think of it as the BIOS on a Windows machine.

Okay thanks . I've also read up a little bit . Some of it was a blur but your response clicked it together . Would you suggest overclocking ? I read up a little on it and undervolting .
I suggest you get very familiar with it before you go and change anything. The wrong move or an incompatible OS can and will give you a nice headache. Read, read, read is my advice.

Okay , I don't think I'm going to mess with it though . Its not something I'm "so" interested in doing .
