"Low on Space"

Hi all, I'm relatively new to Android and am having an issue I'm hoping someone can help with.

We've had this Tablet for about three weeks. Upgraded to ICS the first day. Tablet has been running OK until a couple days ago. We started getting messages that things have stopped working. (exp. "Unfortunately, Browser has stopped working"). I realized there was a message at the bottom that says "Low on Space". When clicked it goes to the "Apps" setting screen. This screen (with ALL highlighted at top) is showing that most of the storage space is used.

I checked the "Storage" setting screen and it shows that about 80% is still unused. Only about 5% is allocated for apps on this screen. We only have approximately 50 apps and can't imagine we'd be out of memory.

Any ideas on what our issue may be? Any help is appreciated.

1. Is this the official, or non-official released ICS?

2. Is the Tablet rooted ?

3. Is the SD card any good? Have you tried using some other SD card?

- Is the problem triggered by a specific browser?

- Press and hold Volume Down + Power Button at same time to take screenshots of the problem and other things you've mentioned.

- If you are familiar with adb you could do a: (although I don't expect to see a problem here unless /system continued to be consumed mines been 37MB any time i've ever checked)

The problem happened with various browsers and apps. For example, it happened to the Facebook app "Unfortunately, Facebook has stopped working". I am not familiar with adb. I can't seem to take a screen shot -nothing happens when I hold volume d and power?

I deleted a bunch off apps and a couple of the Acer user manuals I downloaded and the problem hasn't occurred again. However, I don't think that solved the problem. Is anyone else seeing odd numbers on the "Apps" setting screen? Going to the settings screen and selecting Apps. Then choose the ALL tab on top. On the bottom, it displays the Internal storage. Mine is showing 12 GB used and only 585MB free. I'm obviously very confused, I don't like not being familiar with an operating system!

yea on ICS it is vol down and power at exact same time but it takes several seconds before it takes a screenshot. adb was just one more way to extract information on the problem.

EDIT: My Apps / ALL Tab shows 691MB used 12GB free. That is /data but /mnt/sdcard would affect it. Already checked /mnt/sdcard with a file manager and see if you have something large in there?

Do a search on the Market for an app called android assistant ... its good at showing what is happening with memory etc

Has anyone found any help to this issue? I am having the same problem. I tried to download android assistant, but I have no space available. Something is definitely wrong since I have very little on my tablet (no music, about 20 pictures, and 15 books). I can't do a screen shot, but my storage stats are:

Apps-485MB
PICTURES/VIDEOS-47.62 MB
AUDIO-20KM
DOWNLOADS 2.69MB
MISC-275MB
AVAILABLE 234MB

I am no mathematician, but something is not adding up. I have the official ICS and it is not rooted. I can move some stuff to a SD card, but obviously something is wrong and that won't really fix the issue. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
