totally reformat iconia a200 w/ debian?

Hi. I recently bought a used A200 iconia. I thought it was cool because it has 2 USB ports and I got a good deal.

I want to reformat this device totally and install Debian instead of Android OS. Is this possible?

I have read a lot in the forums about rooting Android, dual-booting with Debian in a chroot, etc.

I don't understand whether I can just boot from media, reformat and install a new operating system like I could with an x86 system. That's all I want to do.

    Thanks.

You probably need to be rooted and have a custom recovery installed on the tab. Wheather there is development of devian for that tab is another story.

I guess I don't know what that means. I don't want to access root on the Android OS. I want to totally wipe the partitions with the Android OS and install Debian instead. Is this possible?

In theory yes. But to install another OS on the device you need root access. Think of it as administrator privileges.
