    A first time poster and new A500 user, I have a few questions regarding rooting my A500. The reason I have to root this device is that I use the navigation app Co-pilot Live on A500 a lot. Recently I start to get "low on space" alerts, and free space on the device decreased to around 200mb. Now I cannot install new applications due to "insufficient storage available". I learned that this is an ICS problem specific for GPS use, and Google has no plan to fix it. One work-around for this problem is to root the device so users can delete the accumulated GPS data manually. My questions are: 1). can you root an A500 reporting "low on space" (using the method one preferably)? 2). Do you have to reinstall the apps after rooting? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    It seems rooting is still needed. Here is the readme.txt: "This should fix any gps problems for the Acer Iconia A500 running Ice Cream Sandwich (stock or not)
    !!!(Needs Root)!!!
    replace only the ito.dat file in system/ect/gps".

    Regards,

    When using ICSroot on a win 7 x64 ultimate on my A500 32G (latest automatic update ICS 4.0.3) application behaved as doing something but NO reboot in the end (and NO root)
    When doiing same on my win 7 32 standard home edition all went fine and I now have a rooted A500 working as should be, maybe something to try for those having troubles ?

    I've tried both methods and neither will work. Can't figure out why! USB Debugging is definitely checked, I have the latest Acer driver (actually tried both), I rebooted the PC after installing the driver(s), and I've tried both methods in both MTP and PTP connection mode (which connection mode should it be in), and tried two different USB ports.

    I do have an SD card inserted, in case that info matters, and it's build number Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1 and I'm on ICS version 4.0.3.

    With method 1 I get:
    ===============================
    Device is connected. Preparation for executing of the main script.
    'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
    'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
    'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
    'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
    The file "mempodroid" isn't created!
    -
    Not getting root!
    -
    Error!
    -
    Press any key.
    ========================

    And with method 2 it says at the bottom "No A500 with USB Debugging Detected!" I can click the "DO IT!" button and it goes through the motions, but the tab doesn't reboot and no root is achieved.

    Any suggestions?

    Today i had somehow same problem as you, cldnt get root with ics root tool. Becouse this isnt first time im rooting same tab ( got stock rom after jelly bean) i tried (google this) one click root, i think its on xda developers, if you want i cld upload it, got root, instaled superuser and it was ok. I cldnt got cpuid using blackthunders app which wass great so i got it using dmsg dump on my pc. From here i installed recovery and custom rom again.

    I tried today to root my acer A500 tablet but couldn't get it. I tried Windows XP and Linux (Fedora 19) to no avail. I got the same error message on both computers.

    Code:
    john|~/Desktop/ICS_rooting $ ./runit-linux.sh

     Full root for A100, A500 and A510 ICS. Simple method.

     Root it is received!

     For the further work it is necessary to establish SuperUser and,
     at will, Titanium Backup

     ATTENTION! Don't install Busybox! It is already established!
     If reinstall, some programs will cease to receive root!

     Press 'enter' for continue.
    After receiving this I installed SuperUser by Chainfire and Titanium Backup. Taitanium Backup could not get root and SuperUser could not install the binary. No root! Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the post. My problem is I'm able to run the tools. But it goes to the end and says it can't find root and momoproid file. Might be spelled wrong sorry.
