Extend Battery Life on ACER A500 WiFi Only ***ROOT REQUIRED***

Alright, for those who have the ACER A500 WIFI ONLY TAB you know that there is no PHONE on the TAB... So read on if you are interested in prolonging your battery life... jejeje

THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO PROLONG YOUR BATTERY LIFE AN EXTRA FEW HOURS... Working GREAT so far... Here are my current findings...

BEFORE CHANGING/DELETING FILES...
IDLE - 2mA
PEAK - 151mA (During stress test that ran at least 6 minutes)


AFTER DELETING/CHANGING FILE NAMES...
IDLE - 1-2mA
PEAK - 104mA (During stress test that ran at least 8 minutes)

You need ROOT to do this (See my post on how to ROOT the tab... jejeje)and must have a ROOT enabled file browser to make the changes...

1.) Find/Locate the directory /system/app and find the PHONE.APK and the TELEPHONY.APK

2.) Either rename the files (e.g. PHONE.OLD and TELEPHONY.OLD) or even DELETE the files.

DONT FORGET TO MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR FILES BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!!!

***IF YOU NEED TO FACTORY RESET YOU WILL HAVE TO REPLACE/RESTORE THESE FILES OR YOU WILL BE STUCK AT THE START SCREEN!!! I am not responsible if you brick your device!!! ***

Thanks for posting this. Did this several days ago.myself. I actually could not get the telephony app to rename. Just the phone app. And even though I get no cell standby in the battery usage, I can't honestly see an improvment in battery life.

You should not remove them as this will botch your OTA update, if we ever get one here in the US??????

I rooted, used root-explorer (mount r/w) and renamed with a .org extension, then can simply remove/rename the file back to OTA upgrade.....

Yup. Thats why I say make a backup... If you don't rename the files and factory reset you will brick. If you delete and don't restore the files, you will brick upon factory reset. Don't play with these files if ou are not willing to go through quite a bit to restore your tablet... Trust me, that's the only reason ive written the tutorial... Cus I had NO CHOICE... jejeje
