ok, one question, tried to do a backup and it gets stuck on generating the md5 sum, been sitting for about 5min..

Been testing this today. There are a few issues. Did a backup of Honeycomb before I flashed ICS and it backed up but wouldn't restore the data partition . Backing up ICS and it failed to back up the data partition. But other than that, flashing, wiping etc seems to work fine.

I believe this is by design... the /data is where the "internal sd card" is mounted so back ups could grow to be out of control with regard to size. so it is excluded in the back ups.

It starts to backup the /data then stops half way through. saying something like "failed to back up data". The first backup I did didn't error when I backed it up but said "failed to restore data" about half way through restoring /data. It maybe by design but if that is the case then why did I not get an error when I first backed up.

It should be able to back up data...that is a big part of the whole point of making nandroid is that they are theoretically a perfect snapshot of your phone in terms of operation. Mine got through the backup process OK, but I have not tried to restore.

Anyone mind explaining what this is to a noob? (the short version will be fine : ) Looking at what is posted here it sounds like you can create and/or restore backup ROM images to/from your device ?

There is no short version when you want to learn about this. If you don't get it, you might as well don't mes with this unless you want a expensive paperweight for a tab. But here is a good read on it....
