So I bought a manufacturer refurbished A100 several months ago and just the other day It shut off on me (no big deal I'll just turn it back on since it's happened before) but this time It wouldn't get past the "ACER" screen. I left it for nearly an hour and still was stuck. I then did research and figured out the Android System Recovery 3e. I did this by holding the power and volume + button but my big problem from here is that I can't select any of the system recovery options. As I did more research I figured out the "Select" button is either Camera button or Home button. Obviously my A100 doesn't have a camera button and my home button only shows and hides the on screen text when pressed.
MY options are..
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
I use my volume buttons to scroll through the options but as I mentioned I cannot select. Iv'e tried many combinations with the hardware buttons but nothing.
Also the reset button at the bottom does not fix the problem.
To me the way you explained it, it sounds like a hardware fault. I think Acer refurbs have a 90-day warranty, I would contact them.
You could try a factory reset, from my sig, but I'm guessing it won't work. Another idea might be turn it off and charge it for a few hours, just in case it is a charge issue.
Check out all the brick threads over at xda. Pio_masaki has been working on this for a while. It seems there have been a fair amount of recovery an partition issues.
