How to hide status bar (root required)

One of the things I've never liked about Honeycomb or even ICS is that the status bar takes up screen real state. Like when surfing, watching videos (you'll also have side bars here since it shrinks the resolution), and even games. Compared to my older Samsung Galaxy tab 7" you can tell the difference in actual screen viewing real state and it make the Galaxy seem to have a larger screen. Someone recommended this app to me and I've mentioned it in other threads but I thought the subject should have its own thread. Anyhow below is what I use and it works great. It also does not hinder scrolling performance such as the case with Honeybar. This also has a more subtle icon in the status bar. I use it quite often.

Is there a way to hide the status bar without this app which needs rooting? So far, I have confirmed that playing YouTube video in full screen will eliminate the status bar from viewing. But it is not the case for other media player such as playing through MX Player or Mobo Player. I wonder why and how YouTube video playing does the trick. Any hints from the super Acer tab users here? Many thanks.

ADW Launcher has that option, but I don't know if it would work on Honeycomb.

Technically youtube doesnt hide it but just make them into dots. The bar is still there. Also you have unused bars on the side. If you use hide bar then it gets rid of the dots and the side bars and expands the video.

As far as ADW launcher, it doesn't work (I'm using the latest from the market). But even if it did I'm sure it will require root for now till someone figures out another way.

Also FYI you can never really go wrong rooting this device. If you screw up all you have to do is reflash the rom (update.zip) via sd card and you're back to normal with every data still intact.

Hidebar works well. My thanks to the developer. As I write this, I have the A100 below my computer monitor showing the TV.com app in full screen.

When I first installed it, I couldn't get the notification bar back until I rebooted. But after rebooting, it works correctly so I can get the bar back when I want.
I found by enabling the "ghost back button" you have another option. I also set it as not enabled at boot since I want my notification bar most of the time and don't care for having that extra icon. Personal preference.
