After trying numerous GPS programs, I'm a big fan of Sygic (as are others on this thread).
You download your state maps and it doesn't require a wifi connection.
However, if you can set up a wifi connection (I can make my 4G phone a hotspot which works quite well.), Sygic or free Google Maps will have the advantage of being able to provide things like traffic updates and route you around problems.

I do like Dmtchico's explanation of why having a wifi connection helps get a faster connection.

I'll add that the GPS on the A100 works as well as any dedicated Garmin GPS I've owned over the years and better than the built-in GPS on most other devices including my iPhone and the iPad I used to own.

I'm a private pilot and use it with Avilution Aviation Maps when flying, and with Sygic when driving. In both cases the GPS is accurate and reliable. To keep the A-GPS data up-to-date for fast initial fixes, and check the status of satellites being tracked, I use this application:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...sim.gpsstatus2

Does your tab have Google Maps? Open it. Will it locate you? If not download it from the Play store. Also try to down load GPS Status from the Play Store. It will show satellites and GPS coordinates

    Welcome

You also have to turn on GPS, by going to settings > location services > check GPS satellites. Then like Fun said grab a GPS check app from the play store. An initial connection may take a bit.

I don't think they made different versions of the a100 with or without GPS, so if you can't get it found by the sats it might be a hardware fault.

Well today Google Maps got an update that allows you to save maps for offline use. Anyone has given it a try yet?

Still no offline navigation though, right? Without navigation, offline maps is almost pointless.

    I think it's quite useful
