For this to work I think you need an adapter to fit A100 and case that would hold 8 1.5v batteries. This should give you 12v for A100.

12V is easy to find in batteries of various sizes & shapes so it's just a matter of how portable you want it to be. Rechargeable AAs are only 1.2V, so you'd need 10 of them in series for 12 V. Typical capacity of NiMH AAs is around 2400 mAH. You wouldn't get 10x that because they're in series, not in parallel. Even so, it's better than the A100's internal 1530 mAH battery.

Well, their online specs say it provides 2000 mAh @ 12v, so it should work as long as it has the right tip.

If you buy the XP8000, please let us know how it works for you!

I have the XP2000 that works great (5v micro USB) for my Archos 5.

Typical AA NiMHs are 2400 mAH. Assuming a 1 hour complete discharge is a safe maximum rate, you get 2.4 amps.
The reason the A100 draws 2-3 amps at 12V is because it's charging its internal battery. The power it needs to operate is far less. So once its battery hits 100%, the draw rate on any external adapter is going to be tiny.

I constructed a battery charger using parts from the local Radio Shack. I bought an Adaptaplug Type G plug and an Adaptaplug replacement socket. I connected it to an 8 cell AA holder. I didn't buy new batteries but used some I had around the house. When I plugged it in, the status showed charging, but it quickly switched to a flashing charge/discharge. I then picked up a 2 cell AA holder and wired it to the 8 cell holder and added 2 more batteries. This fixed the charge/discharge issue. However, after about 15 minutes, the charge/discharge came back. I'm going to pick up some new Sanyo Eneloop rechargeables and see how that works using 10 cells. In the brief time, I was messing around with this, it did go from 29% to 33% charged. I'm hoping by using newer batteries, I will be able to get a full charge.

I bought one of these and $6 worth of co axial power connectors from the Shack.
This is tiny for the 2800mah capacity, about the size of 3 sticks of gum, should extend the A100 by 6-7 hours, good for a long flight.
